Over the past decade the gap of older and younger Americans using the internet is shrinking. Unlike older generations. Today as more and more Americans age, they have experience using newer technology. Most older people grew up in the 60’s and 70’s.
I remember taking my first course on computer database in 1976. I attended a major trade show in the 1980’s, where Apple introduced the first Mac. That was not that long ago. Since then, I have obtained a degree in computers and have worked for several major computer companies.
The internet started being used in the business world in the 1960s. First starting with the Federal government, then moving into the private sector.
Just like remembering other life changing events. If you thought of it. I bet each of you can remember when you first started using a computer.
Now with the aging of America, we the “older” population are changing the internet. Either through out computers, cell phones or tablets. We communicate, buy and sell and conduct business over electronic devices.
Over 75% of people from 70 to 74 use the internet, while that same group uses cell phones 93%. And the numbers stay relatively the same as we age.
What does this mean. Like said, we are changing the internet. We spend 70% of our time on the internet searching for information. We spend lots of time sending, receiving emails, checking the weather, or using social media.
We are a force to be reconned with. The are over 65 million of use. That make us one of the largest demographic groups in the nation. That also means we have the buying power in the Trillion of dollars.
Why am I saying with all this.
I am trying to open your eyes to what if offered to you. With the economy is dire straits. The dollar purchasing power, not what it used to be.
I wanted to remind people; companies are fighting for your business. In the old days of brick-and-mortar stores. Advertisements to shop at Worthworth, Penny, Sears and other big name box stores garnered your business through mail advertisement. Today it is through your computer and phone.
Take advantage of the deals offered by companies. There are many great deals out there. Hotels, Food, computers, dating sites. You name it and there are coupons.
There is so much to explore in this new digital world. Remember the internet is there to serve you.
