Next Great Adventure!
You are never too old to start. Since I was a teenager, I have worked. I worked summer jobs throughout my college days. Learning how to be an employee and a good one. Following the advice of my father. And other mentors. Advancing in the ranks to senior management. Through the years, I have worked for multiple companies, both small and large. Leading teams of individuals in a commingled location and employees dispersed around the world.
Throughout my career, I have traveled to 38 of the 50 states, and overseas. Traveling as far South as the South Pole to support the United States Antarctic Program.
I turned 65 this year and am wondering what is in store for me next. Starting a new chapter in my life. I can take the path of others and move into retirement, playing golf and living a comfortable retirement. Or I can take the other less traveled path. A path lined with exhilaration and heartbreaks. Traveling through the Peaks and Valleys together, while all the time moving closer to the goal. Partnering with the right people, using combined years of experience to try something new.
I have read where multiple successful people did not start their greatest endeavors until they were in their 50’s and 60’s. Brands well recognized like Ray Kroc – McDonalds, Harland Sanders – KFC, Bernie Marcus – The Home Depot, Leo Goodwin – Geico, and Martha Stewart to name a few. Elon Musk is in his early 50’s and is starting to really skyrocket and break the ceiling of what can be accomplished.
Some have failed over and over throughout their lives, but never gave up. You read about these people daily. Successful people still actively provide services and provide guidance to others. I hope to be one of those people.
To accomplish anything great, you need to run with others. I have the fortune to partner with a great friend and very smart individual. An individual with many years in the technology field. Together we are starting our own technology business. Along the way we hope to gather other like-minded individuals. With a brain trust of over 200 years of experience in technology. We plan to develop products which will save lives, improve technologies in ways only imagined a few years ago.
I am no stranger to starting something new. From climbing the highest peak in the continental US at age 11, to setting foot at the South Pole at age 50. From living without, to having a 6-figure income. My path has been a walk through the peaks and valleys. All the time, I see everything as a challenge to overcome.
Yes, I have started small businesses in the past. You are reading about “Next Great Adventure” on Seniorsnews.org. A news site created with the help of talented individuals and dedicated to stories and points of interests for seniors. A site where you can find interesting facts. Read international, national, or local news. Where you can plan your next travel event by selecting a state and reading their travel guides.
What makes this next endeavor different from what I did in the past? This is no small feat. I find through 30+ years as a manager managing a multi-millions of dollars program, and thousands of employees. There are giants in many industries. The Goliath so to speak. Those who have come before. Then I see the startups. The disrupters, who by their mere presence have changed the course of history. Amazon, starting in a home garage, is one such example.
We look on collecting a select few other adventurers along the way. People like us, who do not look at the past, but to the future. Armed with the “slingshot” of knowledge and expertise to produce cutting-edge technology which can make a difference. We plan on stepping out in exploration of these new adventures.
As we step forth. following along, read, watch, and join us on this journey. Through blogging me and my partner experiences over the course of setting up and running this company. You will see there is something there for you as you continue your journey through life. Who knows, for someone who has been thinking of starting their own company. Maybe there can be some tidbits to help you too.
So, follow along week after week as we take this journey together.
