Lot of Moving Parts
As I explained in last week’s commentary. My friend and partner Terry and I have started down the path of developing a new company. Working on concepts which we feel will serve the needs of consumers, while bringing success for us.
We divided our efforts two-fold. Business and product development. Terry is taking care of the product development, while I work on all the ins and outs of creating the corporate structure for this new endeavor.
This does not mean I take my hands off helping Terry when product design, development, nor does it mean Terry is free from the business side of the house. What we did is play to our strengths. Terry is technically very smart. He has the insight, knowledge, and skills to understand state-of-the-art technology. From Internet-of-Things, to programming, designing. all things technical.
On the other hand, having been a program manager for 30+ years. I understand the business side. Working with corporate 100 and 500 organizations in providing leadership in program execution of millions-of-dollars. Managing budgets, marketing, resources, and timelines. Every aspect to bring new products to market.
Between the two of us, we have the making of a great company management structure. As we grow there are other fantastic leaders waiting in the wings, ready to assist.
First question to answer.
From the start. From a business aspect. Both Terry and I found ourselves trying to answer the question.
Who are we?
To understand this question. We had to look inside ourselves. Who are we? Both as a leader, and as a person. We are both Christians, who believe in the scriptures and base our decisions on those values. This might sound easy, but we had multiple talks around this topic. We had to dig deep into our souls. Discussing and determining not only as a Christian, but as a company, and a Country to place God first in everything we do. Giving Him the honor and glory, He rightly deserves. This might not appease certain people. We understand that. We have a moral and spiritual responsibility. Whatever product we produce, market, and sell. Is honestly the best product we can produce. Both Terry and I strongly believe that without the help of God, and without following his principles as outlined, we cannot truly succeed in business or life.
What are we?
Second and foremost, we know we are an American Company. Dedicated to the proposition that we build, and support “Made in America”.
God has guided the USA for almost 250 years. Through great and lean times. Like Israel, every time America lost focus of his guiding light. We had problems. I feel if following his principles are good for nations, then it should be good for our company.
With these two mantras the biggest question is starring us right in the face.
What type of company are we?
Are we a manufacturing company? One that builds and sells a product. If we are that type of company, there are all the points to ponder. How do we produce and sell a product? Are we going to self-manufacture or outsource? What are our strategies around manufacturing, marketing, shipping. There are a thousand questions to answer. Too many to go into right now.
Are we a software company? One that designs, build, and supports software to customers. If we are that type of company, this has its own set of opportunities to achieve success. Production, marketing, and selling channels change.
Answering these questions will help shape our company for the foreseeable future. Stay tuned as we explore further this “Next Great Adventure”.
