A town was warned of a major flood was going to happen. Listening to people in who talked that a flood would never happen here. Saying the town was too high up and flooding could never reach them. The man chose to stay instead of heading the warnings.
As the flood levels rose and overtook the banks of the nearby river. The flood waters started to creep up onto the man’s lawn. The man being a faithful man, prayed to God to hold back the flood waters, like Moses parting the read sea. Still the flood waters continued to rise. As the flood waters nears his front door, he saw people wading in the water moving to higher ground. As they passed his house, they yelled out to him to join them. He replied, No I am waiting on God to save me.
The waters continued to rise and soon the first floor of his once beautiful house was flooded, forcing the man to the second floor of his house. Again, the man prayed to God to save him and his house. Shortly thereafter a boat motored up to his house. The rescuers encouraged him to climb in and get to safety. Again, the man shouted out – No I am waiting on God to save me.
The flood waters continued to rise he was forced to climb to the roof top. As the rain continued to i’s down pour and the winds continued to howl. Being a righteous man, he looked up to heaven and pleaded with God to save him, saying “God please save me”! Soon a boat arrived to rescue him. When told to get in. Again, the man refused, saying he was waiting on God to save him.
Finally, the flooding took the man’s house and him along with it. When this righteous man got to heaven, he was standing in front of God. He asked. Why God did you not hear my pleads and save me when I cried out to you?
God replied – Son, I sent warning of the impending disaster. I sent people to lead you. I sent a boat to provide a vehicle in which to carry you to safety. No neither headed the warning, nor let people lead you, or use the vehicle I sent to you to rescue you.
Through my life I have heard this story told many times. Even though it is fictional in nature. The principles have been taught to me through my 40 years in business my captains of Industry. They and this story reveals the facts that for most people ignore. That most people are one to 2 pay checks from financial ruin. That they cannot gather even $400 dollars for an emergency. Living by credit cards, or by the help of others.
They do not head the signs of financial disaster looming. They refuse to believe financial ruin could happen to them. They laugh, scorn and ridicule those who want to help them. They look at financial opportunities, listening to naysayers saying things like, “that cannot work”. You would be a “fool” getting into something like that. Listening to even themselves saying “I can’t do that”! All the time letting opportunities to secure their future pass them by.
If great inventors would have listened to the naysayers and not taken a chance. Would we have the lightbulb today. How about the telephone. Or that which would seem impossible, flight. Edison, Bell, Wright brothers, did not listen, took a chance and followed their dreams.
I am none of these great men. I am not a Musk or other great financier. But what I am is a person will to step out of my comfort zone. Take a chance, reach out to help others to help them improve their lives, mentally, physically and financially.
